2006 Old Rivalry Bowl

Game 1 Shawnee 60- Atherton 0

Last year Shawnee stepped up in lieu of AWOL Dunbar to play Male in the opener. I was impressed with that performance against Male. Not with the score, but their courage in the face of Goliath.

The worm has definitely turned for the Indians today. Congrats to Jason Hawkins and staff for a big win in their debut. Several players including QB Ronyell Britton and WR/DB Kris Bush were outstanding. I hope this is the start of something special for a long suffering program. Keep up the good work and hopefully the Goats can visit you in the playoffs.

Game 2 Brentwood Academy 49- Manual 6
Brentwood coach Curt Masters is the winningest coach in Tennessee high school history. The Eagles are also nationally ranked. If this team is lacking any ingredient for the purple kool-aid they served up and force fed us Saturday, I certainly couldn't taste it. They say size doesn't matter and I used to believe that until I spent that weekend in jail back in '01 for rioting after beating Male. Maybe it doesn't matter but what if you have a team with size at all positions, depth and almost flawless execution ? That's Brentwood Has. They remind allot of the Indy Ben Davis team from '95 that paid Trinity a visit and slapped them around 50-6. Best of luck the rest of the way to them but I don't think they'll need it. Manual's performance was not perfect but it was far from embarrassing. I was encouraged with the effort and that's all I ask of the team. The season is far from over and look forward to getting in the W column.

Game 3 Male 49- New Albany 6

I left with Male leading 28-0 after the 1st quarter. That ole river keeps on rolling. It's always great to talk with Coach Redman- when he's not playing Manual. How can such a nice guy be such a major pain in my ass for so long ? Here's to you coach. We raise our glasses of purple kool-aid in tribute. What a treat it would have been to see Male's defense take on Brentwood. Maybe next year.
