The dawn of a new season

Well, well, well. Here we go again. With the new alignment in place and practically every team making the playoffs with only a three game district slate, it has afforded some very interesting matchups for the regular season.

I want to say this only once, I do not believe the KHSAA needed to add two more classes. Some have said over the last two seasons that a public/private split would water down championships. Now we have watered down district races where no team is left behind. Even more anti-climatic is the intra-district pairings for the first two rounds.

Personally I remember the old Jefferson County 4-A set up with only the top two teams from each of the four districts advancing and playing teams from opposite districts in two double headers at Cardinal Stadium on Friday and Saturday nights as the most enjoyable. It was a notable achievement for the teams who made it the carpet. Sadly many rivalries were put in mothballs when about half of the schools in town were reclassified. Valley-PRP. When will they hook up again? Who has the Snowman? Butler-Western played last year for the first time in a decade and are not scheduled this year. Where is the barrel for the Shively Bowl? What a shame for the Dixie Highway schools that the kids can't play for neighborhood bragging rights! Times change. For better or worse we have six classes and alot of exciting football ahead. I encourage everyone reading this to go out to as many games as possible. Support your team, be a good sport and eat something that is not good for you. Happy Football !
